touriga francesca
A fine, robust grape variety widely grown in the Douro Valley of Portugal for production of red Port. It is lighter than touriga nacional and contributes a suppleness and roundness to the blend and floral and fruity aromatics. Touriga francesca wines are noted for their perfume and persistent fruit style, but they do need the weight of touriga nacional for rich, longer lived styles. In 2001 it was re-named touriga franca, but this name has yet to come into general parlance.
