garganega

This is a vigorous variety grown in the North East of Italy that forms the basis of Soave, where it can be blended with up to 30% trebbiano (or increasingly chardonnay). In Soave Classico the yields are kept low to produce fine, delicate wines with flavours reminiscent of lemons and almonds. Garganega is also responsible for the delicate Gambellara and plays a large role in Bianca di Custoza. It can also be found in Friuli and Umbria.
