viura
Viura, also known as macabeo, comes from Spain and is the dominant white variety of Rioja. Called macabeu in France, it is one of the most planted grapes in Roussillon. It has often, entirely legally, been used to lighten potent red wines or as an ingredient in rosé. It tends to make vaguely floral wines and, usefully in Rioja, it is relatively resistant to oxidation and takes well to oak maturation.
