melon de bourgogne
A bit of a misnomer, this one, as it is not a melon but its origins are in Burgundy. It is famous for one thing only and that is Muscadet. It is not a noble variety but it is frost-resistant, which makes it very useful. There is little to particularly recommend it, being neutral and undistinguished, but it has found a home in Muscadet and with a little bottle ageing on the lees, it can produce more complex and interesting wines that work well with the seafood of the area.
