colombard

A workhorse grape variety that has fallen from fashion. In the1970s it was much used for Cognac production and it became extremely popular in California. It provides the base for relatively neutral, but refreshingly crisp wines when it is made well and cleanly using temperature control and stainless steel. It is still planted in south west France, and there remains some in the satellites of Bordeaux.
